William Letcher Guthrie, Webo as he was affectionately known, transitioned from
this world on January 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Webo was born on September 30, 1945 to the late Letcher W. Guthrie and Sallie Ann
Terry-Guthrie. Webo’s mother passed away when he was 3 years old. At this time,
Webo and his siblings went to live with their uncle and aunt, Hubbard and Mary
Nanny Terry who welcomed them into their home and assumed the responsibility of
raising them with their own children.
Webo grew up in Albany and went to school in the Albany school system. Webo was
a newspaper carrier for the TU/KN. Webo was a very “spirited” teen and had many
friends. At the end of his deliveries he would hang out with his “boys” on Swan St
near the pool hall. You could sometimes see Webo and his boys singing do-wop and
harmonizing together. Webo loved his hair and had the slickest, smoothest process
in town!
Webo was married earlier in life to the late Barbara A. Dabney, with whom they
shared 2 daughters, Lavonia and Marshay. This union lasted several years. Later, he
found love again and married Jeannie Woods, in this union they shared 2 sons,
William (JR) and Brandon. This union flourished with love, companionship, faith and
mutual care and continued until his death.
Webo found pleasure in being outdoors and loved fishing. He enjoyed sharing this
time with family and friends. He also loved taking care of his house, yard and at
times had a small garden. Sundays held a special place in his heart. Webo enjoyed
going to church and was very faithful. Above all else, Webo loved his family and
friends. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, strong work ethic, the way he
was always there for those he cared for and his great love of Whitney Houston!
Webo is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Jeannie, his children, Lavonia (Andres)
Astacio, Marshay, William JR (Erica) and Brandon (Sarah) Guthrie. His
granddaughter, Isharah Knox and grandson, Walker Guthrie. His siblings, Nereida,
Kenneth and Teresa Guthrie and Linda (Deany) White, Barbara (Herbert)
McLaughlin, Linda (Johnathan) Jones and Billy (Em) Dickerson.
He was predeceased by his father Letcher Guthrie, his mother Sallie Ann Guthrie,
his step-mother Vivian Guthrie. His siblings, Florine Sue (Bishop McKinley) Johnson,
Estelle (Uleece) Jacobs, Dr. Charles D. (Florine) Guthrie, James (Pam) Guthrie,
Jearleen (Mickey) Terry. Shelvie (Jean) Terry Hicks, Angela (William) Bess, Joyce
(Zan) King and Albert Richie (Delores) Jackson. He was also survived by many nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
May we remember his kindness and quiet generosity, devotion, humility and love.
Webo will be deeply loved and missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
