Wanda Garrett-Allen Obituary

Service will be live streamed on S.L. McLaughlin Funeral Home Facebook Page at 2pm.

Wanda Ann Garrett - Allen was born March 24, 1956, in Albany, NY to her  parents the late Jesse R. and Malinda Hunt Garrett. She was the youngest  of five siblings.

Wanda truly enjoyed life. She began her journey in the Albany Schools  District, later pursuing a higher education from State University New York  (SUNY). Throughout her lifetime, Wanda made a home in Brooklyn, NY  where she lived for 30-years. She lived in other areas such as; Rhode  Island, Panama, Georgia, and North Carolina. Wanda lived out her later  years in Memphis, TN to be close to her sister- Jacqueline. While she  danced to her own beat, Wanda accepted the Lord as her Savior at an  early stage in her life. She enjoyed attending church regularly and contributed faithfully by tithing.

As we reflect on the beautiful memory of Wanda, we will remember her  for her bright smile, authentic personality, and unique sense of fashion.  She was truly a fashionista. Wanda never met a stranger. She was loving  and trusting of people. If she had 3 cents she had no problem giving you  2 cents. Her love for people, her eagerness, and her free spirit allowed  her to connect with lifelong friends as well as acquaintances, who loved  and enjoyed her dearly and will have everlasting memories of their time  together.

Wanda gained her wings on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 at Baptist East  Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Angel on Earth

I met an angel on earth.

She was a mother.

Her greatest creation her son - who came second to none

She gave him life and he gave her the same

they’d share laughter, anger, joy and pain

She wrapped her arms around his heart so if ever she was gone in her embrace he’d remain.

I met an angel on earth

She was a baby sister.

A comforting shoulder and listening ear

Through scraped knees and heartbreaks she was always there

A built in companion to share life’s highs and lows

If ever she was gone they’d always feel her close

For a sisters love falls with the rain and rises with the sun

A bond unbreakable old or young

I met an angel on earth

She was a grandmother

who loved her grand babies like no other

she’d smother them in kisses and hugs

irreplaceable moments of laughter, with no one to judge

“No chipped nail polish, show your a lady

boobs, arch, and booty .. don’t be lazy”

I must admit she drove us crazy

I met an angel on earth

with a smile as contagious as the love she gave

a God fearing woman

who loved her family and friends

As vacant as our lives may feel without her

Our hearts will forever be content having had the experience of her love.
