Verenette Wilson, 78, of Albany, NY entered into eternal rest on October 31, 2025, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Waynesboro, MS on June 21, 1947, Nette, as she was affectionately known, was the third child born to Robert McLaughlin and Willie Mae Sims (Campbell). She was educated in the Waynesboro, MS school district and graduated from Riverview High School. It was during high school when she met her husband, the late John Arthur Wilson, whom she married on April 13, 1968. They had four children: James, Robert, John, and Glenda Wilson.
In 1969, Nette moved from Waynesboro, MS to Albany, NY. One of her first jobs after relocating was as a ward clerk for Albany Medical Center. She later combined her passions for cooking and taking care of others to become a visiting nurse with Visiting Nurses of Albany where she worked at places like Albany County Nursing Home and did many private duty cases until she could no longer do the lifting involved with patient care. She took care of many loved ones even while retired.
Early in life, Nette accepted Christ as her Savior and was a long-term member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Trustee. She was in regular attendance until her health began to fail yet she continued to maintain a prayer life and personal relationship with God. Nette was family oriented and loved hosting family gatherings. “Ya’ll come on over” is something she’d say when extending an invitation to her home. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, bingo, and going to the casino. She loved watching her favorite soap operas The Young and The Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Haves and the Have Nots. She loved watching the New York Knicks and her favorite snacks to enjoy were strawberry or butter pecan ice cream, coconut candy, and bananas.
Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, James Wilson (Frances) of Albany, NY, John Wilson (Shari) of Berkeley, CA, and Glenda Wilson of Albany, NY; 8 grandchildren, Jalon Adams, Shaquisha Wilson, Jon Edwards-Wilson, Jazmine Edwards-Wilson, Breahanda Stratton, James Isaiah Wilson-Jackson, James Sharon Wilson (Christina), and Imanie Moore Wilson; 7 great grand-children, Jaquis Adams, Aaliyah Adams, Khristiana Wilson, Ayveon Welch, Kingston Johnson, Josiah Wilson, and Jeremiah Anthony; 8 siblings, Bennie Fred McLaughlin (Doristean) of Moss Point, MS, Valeber Ruth Crowson (Phillip) of Albany, NY, Rose Hurst (Willard) and Herman McLaughlin (Denise) of Detroit, MI, Lee Makuch (Thomas) of Slingerlands, NY, John Atkins (Linda) of Fresno, CA, Cecil Atkins (Wanda) of Hemet, CA, and Arthur Sims (Deirdre) of Hesperia, CA; Special niece, Pamela Harris of Albany, NY; her fur baby Peedee, extended family, James “Bud” Boykin, Kaleea Davis, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
