Sarah L. Mathis was born on December 29, 1952 in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Frank D. Jones, Sr. & Annie Mae (Liggins) Jones. She departed into eternal rest on March 30, 2021 at Albany Medical Center hospital. She was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.
Sarah graduated from Philip Schuyler High School. After graduation she started working at NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. After 30 years of working for DMV she retired. Shortly after retirement, she worked part time at Stewart’s in which she enjoyed.
Sarah was married to the late Dennis Mathis and with this union they had a son, Maurice Gentry Mathis. She leaves behind five grand-children Sha’Sia, Sadat, Sha’Queece, Gabrielle & Isaiah and three great grand-children, Si’Asia, Sage & Skyy.
She also, leaves behind to cherish her memory five sisters and two brothers, Frankie Jenkins, Frank Jones, Jr., Shirley Jones, William Jones, Gloria Jones-Dabbs, Dorothy DeWitt, Diana Brewer, Jeanette Jones and sister in love Linda Jones-Tucker “Yay”. She is predeceased by her sister Betty J. Jones. There is host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Sarah was a feisty and outgoing lady. She loved her son (mama’s boy) and grands dearly as well as her siblings. As a hobby she was passionate about collecting old coins, enjoyed planting flowers and more importantly playing “lotto”. Sarah had a big heart that she shared with everyone, she had a smile & laugh that was unforgettable. “Smile on my Sister” we love you eternally.
