Ronney L. Reed ( aka "Koonce") passed away suddenly on October 31, 2024. Ronney was born on July 10, 1954 to the late Edward J. Reed Sr. and the late Lucy P. (Smith) Reed.
Ronney grew up in Arborhill, Albany, NY and graduated from Saint Joseph's Academy. He enjoyed playing basketball on the Saint Joseph's Varsity basketball team and at the courts on Swan Street. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after many years of service.
For many years Ronney resided in California returning to Albany when his Mother's health was failing. Ronney was a compassionate and dedicated caregiver.
His true passion and gift was singing. He had a beautiful voice and was the lead singer in various bands. One band was called "Earth Born." He loved to sing Earth Wind and Fire's song Reasons and many of Luther Vandross's songs. Ronney loved his family and friends. He enjoyed socializing, watching sports and cooking for family gatherings. He was an excellent cook which was his trade in the Navy. You could usually always count on hearing him sing at the end of our family barbecues.
Ronney was a gentle, loving and peaceful soul. He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Cheryl, Gwendolyn (Gwen) and Donna Reed. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and very special friends Terry Thorton (Serena). Preceding him in death his brothers Edward "Eddie" J. Reed Jr, and Carl M. Reed.
Ronney leaves a legacy of love and devotion to his family, friends and the many lives he touched.
