Mureen Victoria Browne, Nee McCalmon, born January 6, 1944, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 23, 2022, in Albany, New York. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Jane McCalmon of Guyana, South America. Mureen was one of thirteen siblings: Elise, Daphne, Rudolph, Fredrick, Martha, Daniel Jr., Olive, Marilyn, Grace and the late Dorene, Dennis, and Danette.
Mureen migrated to the United Stated in her early twenties. She would spend those early years living in Brooklyn, New York, with close relatives. It was during this time that Mureen would meet and marry Cecil Browne. Out of this marriage came her precious son, Nolan. The family soon bought their home in Huntington Long Island, where she lived most of her adult life. Mureen was a working mother. She worked for over 30 years for Jordache in Manhattan, New York, retiring in 2009. Mureen lovingly spent the last four years of her life with her sister, Martha, and her family. Together they shared many joyful and memorable activities and adventures.
Mureen was known for her fashion sense; she was always well-dressed, especially for work and for all the family functions . She loved to shop for clothes! Her nieces and her stepdaughter can testify to the fact that they have learned the art of “clarancerack shopping” from her. Aside from shopping, Mureen's other passion was cooking and baking. Her pine-tarts, cheese cakes, brownies with nuts, and home-made breads were well loved by many near and far. She loved her family, especially her son and grandchildren. She was known to pray for everyone on a daily basis. Mureen was always willing to share what she had. She was funny, with a love for laughter and chatting with her friends; and she never missed an opportunity to dance.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Nolan Browne, Stepchildren: Orin, Deborah, Denise, and Paula, Grandchildren: La-Dawna, Ahkyra, Paris, Alexus, Nolan Jr., Jesse, Jason, Alesha, Nigel, Aleyah, and Prince Nolan, Great grandchildren: Jo'elle, Jordyn, Teniya, Madison, JadeLee, Malik, Mylo, Montana, Naila, Banks, Siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends near and far. Mureen has run her race and finished her course; may her soul rest with the Lord!
