Michelle Doris Thompson departed this life on Monday, December 27, 2021. Born on June 14, 1959, in
Brooklyn, New York, she was the third child of Estherline Doris and Harding Warren Thompson. She was
preceded in death by her parents and sister Deborah Marie Thompson.
Michelle grew up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community of Brooklyn where she attended P.S. 305 and
Junior Academy. After graduating from Samuel J. Tilden High School in 1977 she attended The State
University of New York (SUNY) at Albany, majoring in Business Administration. She had a long career
with New York State Government, working most recently in the Office of the Comptroller, analyzing
Unclaimed Funds.
From an early age, Michelle evidenced appreciation for spiritual things. She attended Sunday School,
Vacation Bible School and sang in the Children’s Choir at Concord Baptist Church, in Brooklyn, New York.
Through friends met in college, she developed a special relationship with the Lord. In 1991, she totally
gave her life over to the Lord and was baptized into the Pentecostal faith at Christian Memorial COGIC in
Albany, New York. She was a member there for many years, under Pastor James Davis as her leader.
In 2003 she felt the Lord leading her to serve at Greater St. John’s COGIC, also in Albany, New York,
under the leadership of Superintendent McKinley Johnson. There she has been a cherished member,
active in the Shepherd’s Ministry and a Missionary. Michelle loved spreading the Good News. Leaving a
message on her phone you would hear the greeting “You’ve reached the Good News Network”.
Michelle was a “people person”. She took a personal interest in others and was always ready to
converse. Ever the inquisitive one, she believed in asking a lot of questions. She will fondly be
remembered as loving sales, shopping and visiting with friends.
Michelle is survived by a sister, Renee Patricia Ambler of Antioch California, a brother, Warren Edward C.
Thompson, Jr. of The Bronx, New York, brother-in-law, Eddie C. Ambler of Antioch, California, two aunts,
Vivian (Thompson) McMillian of Pine Bluff, North Carolina, Jean Thompson of Norfolk, Virginia, an uncle,
Bennie Kyle of New York City, a host of cousins and many long-time friends. She was Godmother to
Justin Clark and Helenna Durr and honorary Godmother to Moses Durr and Jarrod Clark.
