“A deep well overflowing with generosity, kindness, and love”
Michael Chalmers passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at the age of 72. Michael leaves behind a legacy of compassion, warmth, and a profound impact on all who knew him.
Michael was born in Albany, New York, to Harriett Sue Foy Chalmers and William Chalmers Sr. Michael’s aunt often described him as mischievous and curious in his childhood, with mischievousness winningout most of the time. This was the beginning of his thirst for adventure and discovery.
A senior class trip to London sparked his unquenchable love of travel, which would define much of his life. This experience abroad led him to attend his freshman year of college in Switzerland, where he learned he was not fond of snow or skiing. Undeterred, he transferred to the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs, immersing himself in the culture and language. Michael achieved working proficiency in Spanish, Italian, and French which he put to use as he and Charlie along with a special group of friends, traveled the world.
Michael moved to Manhattan in 1982 and began his long and successful career in the housing finance field. His expertise, dedication and respect led to his appointment as Vice President of Information Technology/Information Security at SONYMAE/HFA.
Michael’s personal life was marked by his deep and enduring partnership with Charles Fischetti. The two shared 37 years of love and companionship, and on January 30, 2015, they were married, solidifying their bond in a joyous celebration of their years together.
Two lifelong friends characterized Michael in this way:
“Michael will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his unwavering kindness, and his ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued.”
“His heart was a safe haven for all who knew him, and his legacy of love, travel and family will live on in those who remain.”
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Harriett Sue Foy and William Chalmers Sr, and his loving husband Charles. He is survived by his beloved brother William Chalmers, sister-in-law Linda Jackson-Chalmers, and his dear aunt Nevern Smith, uncle Gerald Smith, special cousin Wanda Foy-Burroughs, and numerous cousins and friends whose lives have been touched with his ever-generous spirit.
