Michael J. Harris, 44, of Troy, NY entered eternal rest on September 10, 2021. Born in Brooklyn,
NY on February 20, 1977, Michael was the second child born to Helene C. Harris.
Michael spent his early years in Brooklyn where he was quite active in Pop Warner football
while being educated in the New York City School District. He left Brooklyn to relocate to Troy,
NY in 1994. He proudly earned his High School Equivalency Diploma in 1998 and furthered his
education by joining the Sheet Metal Workers apprenticeship program in 2001. Michael
graduated Sheet Metal Workers Local 83 becoming a Sheet Metal Journeyman in 2002.
When Michael wasn’t working as a sheet metal worker, he enjoyed spending his time fishing
and coaching basketball to area youth. For many years, Michael was a proud coach to the boys
of Dream Team and the girls of Pretty in Pink Lady Dream Team. With no professional training,
Michael was successful in helping lead his teams to multiple championships and for over 15
years. Michael was a true people person who had a special gift for making everyone feel like
family. He loved to smile and spread love to others.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Laushonda Harris of Watervliet, NY, son Ivy’onne
Harris of Troy, NY, son Raiquis Harris of Watervliet, NY, daughter Riqiya Harris of Watervliet, NY;
siblings Anthony Harris and Jason Harris of Troy, NY, Deryck Green of Brooklyn, New York, nephews Iya Harris and Rayquan Harris of
Troy, NY; nieces Totia Harris and Destiny Harris of Troy, NY; close friends Prince Dobere, Luis
Williams, Herman Laws, Darian Harris, and Demetria Andrews; and a host of other family,
friends and loved ones. Michael is predeceased by his mother, Helene Harris of Menands, NY
and his maternal grandmother who was like a second mother, Ethel Harris of Pleasant Garden, NC.
