Michael Good Obituary

Deacon Michael Good went to rest with his savior on Saturday, July 19th with his wife and children by his side. He was born to the late Effie Lois Good and Rudolph Good Sr. on November 23, 1954, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was educated in the Boston public school system. He joined the United States Army in 1979 and served honorably for thirty-four years. He retired from the Army in August of 2013 with the distinguished rank of Command Sergeant Major. His service to his country did not stop there; after retirement, he continued his work as a Veterans Service Officer for Albany County in the State of New York.

Michael’s years of service paid off when they led him to Albany, NY where he met his love, best friend and wife Lisa in 1988. They were married on December 22, 1991 and spent the next 33 years building a life of love, commitment, and laughter. Their dedication to one another not only inspired the people around them but created a safe haven for their children, family, friends and anyone who needed “Uncle Mike” to show up for them.

Michael’s relationship with Lisa also brought him to Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for over 30 years. In 1999, he was the first deacon ordained by Reverend William E. Morgan in a public catechism. His process was a family affair and by the time it was done they could have been ordained along with him. Michael was dedicated to the work of the Lord and served as Chairman of the Deacons’ Ministry for twenty-two years. He was a member of the Male Chorus, Ushers Ministry and served as Chair of the Presidents’ Council. He was actively affiliated with the Laymen’s Ministry of the Hudson River Frontier Missionary Baptist Association and the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention of New York, Inc. In recognition of his decades of faithful service to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and its members, Deacon Good was named Chairman Emeritus in 2022.

Michael was known for his witty remarks and facial expressions that often revealed exactly what he was thinking before he said a word. Those who knew him knew to brace themselves when he rubbing the back of his head and looking up; only he and God knew what he would say.  He embodied the spirit of a “good and faithful servant, worthy of honor.”  He spent his life loving the people around him and would do anything in his power to support them. No wasn’t a word he would often say.

Michael adored and cherished time with his family. He especially enjoyed family dinners, where the joy of gathering around the table was only matched by the laughter shared during game time with his children and grandchildren. His humor, whit, love and presence will be missed more than words can express. It was an honor to love him and be loved by him.

Michael was predeceased by his four siblings: Jacqueline Good-Thompson, Johnnie Belinda Good, Rudolph “JuneBug” Good Jr., and Tiana Logan; and three nephews, JT, Jamal, and Colus.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his beloved wife, Reverend Lisa Good; his sons, Michael Good Jr. (Sylvia Chavana), Niles Ceaser Sr. (Deyonna), and Malcolm Good (Princess); and his one and only baby girl, Coretta Good (Kennard); his grandchildren Danté Alexander, Natalia, Zaryah, and Kaylani Good, Taylor Young,  Amarianna Canteen, Zionnah and Niles Ceaser Jr. and Princess Miyah Good; his sister, Willie Mae Ryner; parents-in-law, Patricia Beatty and Robert Wilson Sr.; siblings-in-law, Shatiki, Vashon, Tiffany, and Tia; his spiritual daughter, Niquane Smith; and special friends, Larry and Patrice Burwell. He is also remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, family members, friends, and his loving Mt. Pleasant church family.

Deacon Michael Good was a man of unwavering faith, devoted service, and bold strength—his life was a testament to the love, favor and faithfulness of God. He used to sing  “I decided to take a stand” and watching him stand to the very end is a privilege we will cherish forever.
