Lora Ann “Cokie” Burton released her soul from her earthly body on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. She was born on December 03, 1959 in Matherville, MS to the late Mrs. Eddie B. (Teen) and Mr. Sam Burton, the oldest daughter of their 5 children. For the majority her life, she resided in Albany, NY.
Lora was a dedicated and diligent worker, maintaining two jobs consistently for over 40 years, starting with working side by side with her mother in the family business, “Burton Hot Dogs and Snow Cones” for over 32 years in the mornings then working at Albany Medical in the evenings for 44 years! When the family business closed, instead of take a well-deserved break from working two jobs she started a long standing working relationship with CVS Pharmacy for at least 20 years!
To know Lora, was to love her! She was unique in her style, fearless and most of all true to herself always. Our very own Gypsy Queen, earrings, rings and all.
If you did not know her you would have thought she was mean from her facial expressions and dry humor as Lora was the master of looking at you like you were crazy! But she was a sweetheart deep down. She would give you the shirt off her back if you asked, but only after fussing with you a bit first.
In her own way, she made an indelible mark on everyone she encountered and will be greatly missed.
She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her: her loving son Damon (Jacqueline) Royal, her grandchildren - Damon Jr and Dea’Monie, sister - Consuela Burton, brother – Demetrius Burton and special friend - George(Jazz) Burch, plus a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
