Leeland Lewis Obituary

Leeland Owen Alderman Lewis a.k.a. “Lee, Melvin or Eddie” of Buxton Village, Guyana, South America passed away peacefully in hospice care on August 18, 2020 in East Greenbush, New York at the age of 74. He would have celebrated his 75th birthday on September 15, 2020.

Leeland is survived by his former spouse, Hazel of Sun City Center, Florida; his daughter,  Juliet and spouse Tonya of Gainesville, Florida; his sons, Owen and spouse Jamiylah of Newport News, Virginia and Derman of Schenectady, New York; his grandchildren Khalil and Q’edar; his brothers, Kama and Rupert and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that adore him. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Elsa Lewis, his brothers, Charles and Galton and sister, Claudette.

Lee came to America on April 20, 1969 to study at Washington Business Institute in New York City. From here he transferred to City College of New York where he earned his Baccalaureate of Social Science Degree

Following his graduation and a few minor employment opportunities Lee obtained a job with New York State of Civil Service where he finished out his career and retired in 2001.

Those who knew Lee, knew he loved to share his love of music with others. When he entertained at his home, he had people dancing late into the night to the many genre of music. His favorites were SOCA, to Calypso, to Reggae, and Rhythm & Blues. Mr. T had nothing on Lee when he came to jewelry because he loved his gold and diamonds. He loved luxury cars and was always well-groomed in the finest clothes and shoes. When his children were growing up, Lee spent many weekends with them teaching them to play tennis, ping pong and soccer. He loved to cook dishes like Bakes, Pepper Pot and Split Pea Soup which are native to his country of birth. Finally, Lee loved to travel the world especially to Jamaica and his home country.

At a future date, the family will be having a Memorial Service in New York to Celebrate the Life of Leeland Lewis.
