John Bonds, 65, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Albany, New York. Born on May 26, 1960, in the same city he called home throughout his life, John brought energy, style, and a deep love for family and music to all who knew him.
John was a man full of life. His vibrant personality was matched by his passion for music—a love so profound that he named his daughters after two of his favorite artists: Stephanie Mills and Jasmine Guy. Music was more than just a pastime for John; it was a part of his identity and a source of joy that he shared with those around him.
Known for his impeccable sense of style, John took great pride in his appearance. He loved to look good and smell even better. But above all else, he cherished his hair—his waves were legendary. No matter the time or place, John's waves were always "on swim," a testament to the care and pride he took in presenting himself.
Family was at the heart of John's world. He found immense joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter and love. He is survived by four beloved children: Destiny Mcann (Kai David), Kalief Bonds, Stephanie Bonds (Onavion Daniels O’milah Bonds), and Jasmine Bonds (Nehemiah Johnson Zaida Johnson and Jah’seh Johnson). His legacy continues through them and the grandchildren who brought him so much happiness.
John is also survived by four siblings: Alexander Edmonds, Linda Jackson, James Jackson, and Shelia Abraham. He leaves behind a large extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wolfard Bonds and Elise Jackson; three siblings—William Jackson, Louise Jackson, and Elizabeth Ann Jackson; as well as his son Anthony Bonds.
John’s presence lit up every room he entered. Whether through music echoing from speakers or the ripple of laughter during family gatherings, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire joy in the lives he touched.
