James Guthrie, who was born on June 21, 1937, in Halifax, Virginia, to the late Bernice and James Guthrie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 18, 2024.
In his early years, James moved to Albany, New York, where he embarked on a successful journey as an entrepreneur, establishing a janitorial business and a restaurant. His life was guided by his deep faith, and he was committed to his church and his family. James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, and cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
James is survived by his former wife, Pearl Guthrie; his children, James Guthrie and Mary Vargas; his sister, Rosa Guthrie; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his special friends, Donna Thompson and Tammy and Chris McGrath. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Mandie Guthrie; his daughter, Pearl Martin; his brother, Charlie Guthrie; and his sisters, Doris Ryan and Alice Brooks.
James Guthrie will be fondly remembered for his love, faith, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
