Iola Jackson gained her heavenly wings on June 28, 2024, at home while on hospice care at the age 88. Iola was born on August 24, 1935, in Gallion, Alabama to the late Lucy (Glass) Jackson and Joseph Jackson Sr. In 1950 her family relocated to Albany, New York. Iola attended schools in both Alabama and Albany.
Iola was employed by the Office of General Services for 30 years until she retired. She was strong in her faith and was a devoted mother to her children. Iola enjoyed fishing back in the days when she was driving the most and always talked about it to her family and friends. She was fond of spending time with her family and friends talking, joking, and hookers (drinking) lol. Everyone would gather at Iola’s house to socialize, eat, and listen to music while unwinding from the day or work week. Iola also loved to garden where she grew collards greens and tomatoes. Her favorite saying when someone asked how she is doing “I’m kicking but not too high.”
Iola leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her passing, her two daughters: Peretta Jackson and Shamika Robinson. She is survived by her sister Bernice Lewis and her brother Joseph Jackson Jr., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends Mattie White, Isadora Robinson, and Debbie.
In addition to her parents, Iola was predeceased by her sons Willie (Jackson) Pompey and Keith (Kool-Aid) Williams, sister Arsola (Doll) Crenshaw, brothers Benjamin Sr., John, and Otis Jackson.
