Ina Lee Robinson was a beautiful gift to Edna and Riley Robinson delivered on June 24, 1957. She was
born in Goldsboro, North Carolina and the oldest of five children. She relocated to Albany, NY with her family at age three. Ina was amazingly strong and left this earth when she was ready. She talked to
God, secured her seat for take-off. Once she was satisfied that her family would be alright, she
boarded and took flight; always saying “I Love You More!”; and “Never Say Goodbye, II’s See You
Later!”
Ina Lee Robinson was a graduate of Albany High School. She graduated Albany Business College with
an Associate Degree. She worked at Albany Medical Center after school, and later she worked at Key
Bank for 17 years, retiring after having hip surgery.
Ina Lee had a love for children, dancing and having fun. She enjoyed hanging out at the Arbor Hill
Community Center which was the place to be in those days. She loved hanging at her Aunt “Lou’s
Diner” on Northern Blvd in her younger years. Ina was a dance machine and kept up with the latest.
She did the robot, dropped it like it was hot, “backed that thang up”, the slide, and even a little bit of
the hucklebuck until she died. She danced until the sun went down with her family this year at her
65 th birthday party this past June, and again in August. She loved to laugh and have fun. Two of her
favorite songs were “Oh Happy Day” and “Square Biz”.
Ina Lee was called “Ali” by most. We are not sure if “Ali” was a slur of her first and middle name
together. The name “Ali” could have been because she would tell you a few things if you got out of
line with her, all while rhyming like Mohmmad Ali. So she not only told you off, but it was lyrical…..all
with Love. She was kind and would give the shirt off her back. Ina loved to cook and would often cook
five or more dishes for one meal. She had her own language sometimes, like her father Riley.
Language usually isn’t hereditary but Ina and her father Riley shared a special way of talking,
especially if they were excited. Funny, she looked like her mother more and more every day and
sounded like her father more and more every day. Ina was also affectionately known as “Toot” by
many of her cousins as well and “ Slick” by her late Uncle Robert because she used to slick her hair
down when she was a young girl; always pretty with a smile.
Ina was predeceased by her Loving mother and father, Edna and Riley Robinson; her handsome
brother Riley Joseph (El-Son) Robinson; and her grandparents Lula and Robert Kornegay, and Velma
Montgomery and Jimmy Lee Durham (Georgia).
She was predeceased by several Aunts and Uncles: Robert Kornegay (Carol) , Macon Kornegay (Nellie), Edward Kornegay (Louvenia), James Kornegay (Mary), Rufus Durham (Betta Reen), and Charlie Robinson (REBY).
She leaves to cherish her memory her dedicated brother and sister, Rasheem Robinson (Jamie) and
Brenda Robinson who were at her side, all of Albany. She also leaves her brothers Elijah Robinson
and Jacquard Robinson all of Albany, NY. She leaves Aunts: Mary King (Bristol), Griffin, Ga; Brenda
