"Mr. George", and "Big Love" peacefully departed this
life on March 14, 2023. George was born October 18, 1957, to Willard and Elvira York in Monticello, New York. Growing up he and his family attended the United Methodist Church in White Lake, New York. He was educated through the Monticello Central School System and graduated from Monticello High School, June 1977. After graduation, he entered the Job Corps in Washington State. He moved to Albany, New York around 1991 where he attended and volunteered with SPARC. He then began his commitment and service to the recovery community and was an inspiration to many. It was there through friends that he received the name “Big Love” for his big heart to help people. He loved to tell jokes and was a big practical joker and always had a story to tell. He loved to bowl and was in one of the Albany bowling leagues. He was also an excellent basketball player and played in the Recovery Tournaments in the 90’s.
George worked diligently with many community programs and especially with the South End Children’s Café where he was a volunteer and served many children. Whatever activity was planned or going on he was there to help. George was recognized for his contributions and leadership to assist the children even through the many hardships of food shortage faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
