Edward Jafila Ponder, affectionately known as “JP,” was born on June 24, 1991, and departed this life at the tender age of 34 on November 4, 2025. From the moment he entered the world, Edward brought light, laughter, and a vibrant personality that touched everyone he encountered. His natural ability to entertain, paired with his humor, confidence, and unwavering authenticity, made every moment in his presence memorable. To know him was to know joy, for he could transform even the simplest of occasions into unforgettable experiences.
Edward’s educational journey began at A.W. Becker in Selkirk, New York, continued at R-C-S Middle School in Ravena, and later at the Albany City School District. Throughout his academic years, he consistently showed dedication to learning and a genuine interest in connecting with others.
He went on to work at Albany International Airport and participate in the SNUG Program, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic and a heartfelt desire to make a positive impact in his community. Edward was also a cherished member of the New Birth Christian Fellowship Church, where his warmth and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression.
Known for his signature phrases—“Ya Get It,” “Not Too Loud,” “You Did Bad,” “You Running Out,” “Straight Jacket,” and “You Bodied That”—Edward’s infectious grin made him beloved by all. His passion for life, culinary creativity, and boundless generosity defined his legacy, along with his unmatched ability to make others feel special and loved.
Even in the face of challenges, Edward met life with a smile and a positive attitude. He avoided drama, choosing instead to uplift those around him with laughter, love, and unwavering support.
Edward’s memory lives on through his devoted mother, Johanna Moore; his father, Edward Ponder Sr.; his stepfather, Richard Board Sr.; his two beloved children, Seh’Ni Ponder and Santana Ponder; and his siblings, Julah Woods, Jamar Board, Joshua Board, Johanna Board, Jaquilla Ponder, Tabree Ponder, Tyshaun Ponder, Odessi Ponder, Brandi Ponder, and Mone Moses. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews—Josharay, A’Naviah, Ah’Jhanay, Julah Jr., Qua’Niya, Mahdi, Amar’re, Mariana, A’Ziah, and Noah.
His closest confidants included his favorite cousin, Tykiem Keene, and lifelong friends Mikey, Chris, Bobby, James (x2), and Sha-Mook, along with a vast network of extended family and friends whose lives he touched profoundly.
The Moore/Ponder family gives thanks to God for His mercy and goodness. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time of grief and ask that you continue to keep our family in your prayers.
Edward’s radiant smile and joyous laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
