Dorene Jeffress Barnes

Dorene Lorraine Jeffress-Barnes, was born on August 25, 1957, in Albany, NY to the late Bertram M. Jeffress and Jane E. Walton-Jeffress. She was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorene was raised in Albany, NY and attended the Albany City School District and graduated in 1977. She was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and was always open to learning new things. She continued her education and attended college at Schenectady County Community College, where she often made the Dean’s list and graduated in 2007 were she attained a degree in Hospitality and Tourism. She later attended the Austin Beauty School and attained her certificate in cosmetology in 2017.

Dorene worked a variety of jobs which included the New York State Thruway Authority as an Office Assistant and The New York State Department of Tax and Finance as a Tax Information Aide. She also worked for the Northeast Parent and Child Society and truly enjoyed working with the young girls within the facility. Prior to her illness, Dorene was employed as a Home Health Aide for an area agency where she loved working with her elderly clients. She was loved because she provided attention and excellent care to the people that she was assigned to care for.

Dorene loved to study the Word of God and establish a strong relationship with the Lord. Dorene previously was a member at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany, NY for many years and later became a member at the Friendship Baptist Church in Schenectady, NY. During church services you’d find her actively participating in adult Sunday School or weekly bible study and participating in various church ministries such as the pastors aid ministry, usher’s ministry, and the church choir. Dorene was a dedicated servant of the Lord and served the church congregation and ministerial staff with great care and compassion.

Dorene loved listening to music, enjoyed styling her hair and cooking. She loved her family and enjoyed being around them whenever they would get together. Dorene was such a loving and spiritual woman and touched the lives of many people with her sweet kindred spirit, strong-willed personality, and beautiful smile.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Rayshone Henry and James Koonce, her grandchildren; Raeahna Roldan, Raekwon Roldan, Callah Vance, Kiaree Vance and Kalisha Vance, her great-grandchildren Raymeir Mccrae, Tyanna Carter, Taliya Carter, Treas-Jour Chandler and Kymiyah Moore, her siblings; Dawn Jeffress, David Jeffress, Lamont Jeffress, Marilyn (James) Chillis, Margaret Jeffress, Grady Jeffress and Gregory Jeffress. Special Aunt Lorraine (James) Chandler, as well as an extended family and friends.

Dorene was predeceased by her Grandparents Percy D. and Gertrude A. (Dobson) Walton and William A. and Edith E. (Springsteen) Jeffress. Her parents Bertram M. and Jane E. (Walton) Jeffress and beloved Husband Barry Barnes.
