Dan Jones Obituary

Dan Jones was born to the late Jim and Angie Lee Jones on July 30, 1935 in Shubuta, Mississippi.  There were a total of 12 boys and 4 girls.  In 1951, at a very young age, Dan left Mississippi and ventured to Ann Arbor, Michigan with his eldest sister, Edna.  During this time, Dan learned many different crafts, and in 1953 in search of a better life, he relocated to Albany, New York where his dear sister, Nettie Mae, was already residing.  Although Dan only acquired a meager formal education, he excelled in every aspect of his life.  Dan will be remembered as a hard working man.  He worked construction for Local Union 190, and in 1992, after nearly thirty-eight years with the Union, he retired.

As a father, his love, devotion, wisdom, understanding and constant trust formed the character of his children.  Dan was known for being a strict disciplinarian, and also for the many sacrifices that he made on behalf of his children.  Dan enjoyed and loved his family and friends and always did whatever needed to be done. Dan was an avid sports fan, and he usually rooted for whichever team was winning at the time.    He enjoyed hosting cookouts with his daughters, washing his cars, gambling with friends, and playing “oldies” music.

Dan has touched the lives of many people in ways they will always          remember and cherish.  He was preceded in death by his long-time companion, Ruth A. Bond, his son; Danny Sanders, daughters; Michelle and Angela  Jones, and Gwendolyn Bond.  He was also preceded  in death by siblings: Jimmy, Kacey, Foster, Claude, Ernest, Freddie,     Eddie, Buster, Alexandre, Ruby, Edna, Sandy and Cleveland Jones, Sr.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughters, Melodee, Melinda,    Bernice, Ruby and Beverly Jones of Albany, NY and Marcy Jones of Washington, D.C.  One very special sister, Nettie Mae Horne of Albany, NY and  brother, Raymond Jones of Chicago, IL  He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn a devoted and dear friend, Donna Sabb, as well  his partner in crime, Rudy Gause, and a host of other family and friends.
