With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Claire Uzzell-Beattie on May 15, 2025, in her hometown of Albany, New York, at the age of 85.
Born on February 10, 1940, Claire was the eldest child of the late Leon and Sylvia Uzzell. As the oldest sibling, Claire took on a nurturing role early in life, helping to raise and guide her brothers and sisters with strength, patience, and unconditional love.
Claire was known for her gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. A true pillar of kindness, she lived a life of selflessness and service. Her warmth touched everyone she met, and her home was a safe haven for all who entered.
Claire dedicated over 30 years to her work at Eden Park, where she earned the respect and admiration of many, receiving numerous accolades for her service. In 2004, she moved to Atlanta, but remained closely connected to her Albany roots.
Claire was a pillar of strength and warmth in the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and resilience.
She is survived by her loving children: Shirley (Stanley) Everett, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Headspeth, Mark Headspeth, Howard Headspeth,Keith Carnes, Kelly Carnes and daughter-in-law Priscilla Uzzell. Her devoted siblings include: Ruth Watson, Joan Lloyd, Sammy Uzzell, Joyce Mason, Linda Wilson, Betty (Otis) Ricks, Barbara Heard, and Brenda Harris. As well as a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Claire was predeceased by parents Leon and Sylvia Uzzell, her children Donald Uzzell and Lorraine Lucy Headspeth; her grandson Donte Uzzell Sr; as well as her siblings Leon Uzzell Jr, and Gail Jackson and special companion John Ivey.
Claire is also lovingly remembered by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends—all of whom were deeply touched by her love and presence.
Her memory will be forever cherished, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she so dearly loved.
