Catherine Hall Obituary

Service will be live-streamed at 11am on S.L. McLaughlin Funeral Home Facebook and YouTube page.

Catherine Mae Hall, affectionately known as "Cat," was a woman of grace, strength, and timeless poise. She peacefully passed on January 21, 2026. Her life was rooted in faith, love, and a nurturing spirit that touched all who knew her.

Born on March 31, 1941, in Greeleyville, South Carolina, Catherine was raised by parents whose values shaped her character. In a time when land ownership was rare for Black families, her parents owned acres of land, teaching her pride, perseverance, self-reliance, and generosity. These lessons guided her throughout her life.

She attended Manning High School and, at age 18, moved to Manhattan, New York, later settling in Troy, New York, where she built her life and family.

Catherine was united in holy matrimony to Anderson Hall Jr. on November 23, 1963. Together, they raised their children with love, strength, and unwavering support.

Known for her poise, confidence, and radiant smile, Catherine loved to dress well and express her creativity through cooking and baking. Her sweet potato pies, jelly cakes, and coconut pies were family favorites. She worked at William Press, Taggons, and American Tissue, and after retirement, continued serving others as a caregiver. A devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, New York, she served faithfully as an usher, pastor's aide, and member of The Golden Divas.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Hall; her parents, Reverend Samuel and Gussie Murray; and her grandson Jahqyad Austin.

She is survived by her children Nicole Coleman (Richard), Juan Hall, and Miranda Hall-Jackson (Warren); her grandchildren Jarrod Canty, Jahshene Austin, Dimene Hall, Elijah Jackson, Aniya Coleman, Jahmirr Coleman, and Dakahrie Jackson; Kirsten Hall, whom she helped raise; her godchildren Carolina Cannon, and Xavier Murray; her siblings Martha Bell Robinson, Linburg Epps, Johna Mae Edwards, Geneva Epps, and Anna Reid Epps; brother and sister she chose James Murray, Mary "Ray" Simon; and many loving relatives and friends.

Catherine's legacy of faith, strength, and love lives on through the family she nurtured and the lives she touched.
