Bernice Norwood-Sanders

Bernice Marie Norwood Sanders daughter of the late A.D. and Thelma Norwood passed peacefully from this life the morning of November 19, 2020 after a decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life.

Bernice was born in Shivers, Mississippi on September 25,1947. At an early age Bernice along with her parents and sisters Jaline and Carrie Ann relocated to Albany, New York. She continued her education in the Albany Public School System. Bernice upon graduation began her career working for the NYS Department of Health and later retired from the NYS Attorney General's Office. Bernice was well loved by all who knew her. She had a heart of gold and she loved to laugh.  Every year you would always see her joyful and smiling face working at the Election Polls during her retirement years. Bernice enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking Sunday dinners and doing her word search puzzles.

Bernice later reconnected with her predeceased husband Calvin Sanders Sr  with whom she spent many wonderful years before tying the knot on January 5, 2012.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of love her two children, LaWanda Eddins (Gus III) of Chesapeake, VA and Tamika Lawyer of Albany, NY; five grandchildren JaQuaad Hemingway, Nyi’mah(Vance), Gus IV, Isaiah Eddins and Asante McGill; two great grandchildren Paityn and Karsyn; two sisters Evelyn Kamili King of Albany, NY and Roberta Norwood-Smith of Albany, NY; Goddaughter Georgia Singletary. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her father and mother A.D. and Thelma Norwood, sisters Jaline and Carrrie Ann Norwood
