Anna Martin Obituary

Anna Mae Kerr Martin passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Anna’s life was a testament to kindness, faith, and quiet strength.

Born in Schenectady, New York, Anna was the beloved daughter of Willie Mae Hines-Marbley and Homer Kerr. She was educated in the Albany City School District, where she began laying the foundation for a life marked by compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to others.

Anna married the love of her life, Allen Dwight Martin, with whom she shared many years of love, companionship, and devotion. Together, they built a beautiful family, and a home filled with warmth, laughter, and mutual respect. Throughout her career, Anna was employed at Sterling Winthrop and worked at 4-H Camps for Youth located at Lincoln and Ridgefield Parks, where she dedicated herself to the welfare and development of young people. After many years of hard work and service, she retired from Key Bank, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism.

Anna was a trailblazer in her field as a talented hair stylist. Renowned for her impeccable skills and for the striking honey blonde hair she was known for, she inspired many in her profession and was admired for her artistic touch and vision.

A dedicated member of New Horizon Church, Anna’s faith was central to her life. She served her community and her church with a spirit of generosity, always striving to uplift and encourage those around her.

Anna had a loving spirit and a giving heart, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word to those in need. She found joy in sewing, knitting, cooking, and shopping, but it was her baking that left an indelible mark on everyone she knew. Known for her delicious rum cakes and irresistible apricot cakes, Anna’s baking was more than a treat—it was an expression of her love, care, and hospitality. Those fortunate enough to share in her baked goods will always remember her as the best baker around.

Anna also had a deep love for music, particularly jazz and ‘80s classics. The sounds of Victor Wooten, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Gap Band and Sade filled her home, offering comfort and joy through every note. Her musical taste reflected her vibrant, soulful nature and her ability to find beauty in the world around her.

Anna is survived by her children, LaMarr Martin of Guilderland, NY, Terrill (Angela) Martin of Dallas, Texas, Steffon (Jamie Lynn) Martin of Latham, NY and Ericka Martin of Albany, NY; her grandchildren, Xavier Martin, Amir Martin and Sanai Martin; her siblings, Mary Ann Hines, Wesley (Annette) Marbley, Norman Marbley, George Marbley, Jr. and Nora Marbley all of Albany, NY, Terry (Bobbi) Marbley of Troy, NY, and Arcell (Jean) Marbley of Schenectady, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae Hines-Marbley and Homer Kerr; her siblings, Tyrone Hines, Peter Hines, Randy Hines; her only uncle, Issac Hines; and her aunt Mary Ann Hines-Jones (William Jones).
