Elizabeth Coleman Obituary

ELIZABETH MAE COLEMAN passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020.

Born in Kinderhook, NY on January 28, 1923, to the late Mary Sheldon and Jay Thompson, Elizabeth lived a long, full and fruitful life.

In 1944, Elizabeth moved to Albany, NY, along with her husband, Percy Coleman, Sr. and two children, Jay and Priscilla. To this union, three more children were born. Elizabeth, her husband and children became members of the historical Israel AME Church. In the years to follow, Elizabeth attended many different churches, never losing hold of her faith and always finding peace and joy in the Word.

Elizabeth was a dedicated and dutiful employee of the New York Telephone Company until her retirement in 1985. She also worked as a nanny and caregiver, fulfilling her love for children.

Affectionately known as Betty or Liz, Elizabeth possessed an inner beauty that matched her outer beauty. She enjoyed doing things to make others happy and took great pride in her appearance. The students at Austin Beauty School knew her well as she went to them weekly to get her nails done and her hair coiffed. To sum up her legacy, Elizabeth was a prime example of beauty and love.

She leaves to carry on her legacy and cherish her memory, two daughters: Mary (Marcelle) Dockery and Priscilla (Jesse) Brace, 13 grandchildren: Aloha Coleman, Jay Allen, Mark, Michael, Linda, Theresa, Elizabeth Brace, Wade, Sr., Sakyna and Adrian Coleman, Sameialika, Kaneesha and Nacoyia Tarver, 21 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, Goddaughter Lutricia Graves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Coleman, Sr., three sons, Floyd, Percy, Jr. and Jay Coleman, two grandsons, Jesse Brace and Terryn Pringle and one great-great grandson, Xionte Brace.
